Civil Discourse

Kindness. Understanding. Respect. Empathy.

CIVIL DISCOURSE WORKSHOPS

Like many of you, we have witnessed a decline in civil discourse at the local, state, and national levels. However, we believe that Gilbert can overcome these challenges and maintain its reputation as one of the country’s most desirable places to live and work.

To that end, Gilbert Talks has developed a workshop series with the support of SRP, Park University, and the Town of Gilbert to enhance our ability to engage in productive conversations with fellow Gilbert residents on critical community matters.

DATES: Thursday evenings in September 2024 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Sept. 5, 12, 19, and 26)

LOCATION: Park University (92 W Vaughn, Gilbert, AZ 85233)

WHO MAY PARTICIPATE: Anyone over the age of 16 who lives or works in Gilbert. (Those under 18 must have parental permission.)

WORKSHOP DETAILS: Four two-hour interactive workshops focused on the principles of Civil Discourse, including effective communication, listening, empathy, bias, ethics, and online interactions. Optional application “homework” is suggested at the end of each session. Each facilitated session will begin with a discussion of one or more key principles, followed by interactive small-group work to develop and practice skills associated with the principles discussed. Groups have dynamic, energetic conversations and the facilitator makes sure it is a safe, fun, and interesting experience.

COST: Free! Thanks to the generous support of SRP and our hosts at the University Building, Park University, and the Town of Gilbert.
